Throughout the world, Recovery Colleges are transforming lives by providing an educational, socially based pathway for people who want to learn more about wellbeing.

It provides ways to reclaim lives that may have been impacted by mental health challenges and/or alcohol and other drugs and other life issues.

The WA Recovery College Alliance (WARCA) is a unique partnership of 15 organisations to bring Recovery College courses to the entire state of Western Australia. Rise is proud to be one of the Recovery College’s partner agencies.

On behalf of the WA Government the Mental Health Commission, WARCA brings this innovative approach in mental health recovery to meet the needs of metropolitan and rural, regional and remote communities.

The Recovery College Model
The educational approach to recovery is powerful. Some of the unique benefits of the Recovery College Model are:

  • Individuals recognise and learn to use their individual talents and resources.
  • Students explore possibilities and develop their skills.
  • People are more able to achieve their goals and ambitions.
  • Staff become coaches who help people find their own solutions.
  • Training courses replace or are in addition to therapies.
  • Students choose their own courses and become experts in their own self-care.

There are currently vacancies on Educator Foundation Programs at Joondalup, Rockingham, Bunbury, Northam, Perth and Kalgoorlie and a range of courses focusing on treatment and recovery from addiction of alcohol and other drugs (all at Joondalup).

The educator foundation program is free 5 day course run once a week over 5 weeks to prepare new and potential educators in line with the principles and practices of the WA Recovery College Alliance (WARCA). More information here:

There are a range of courses that are being facilitated by WARCA, Women’s Health and Family Services and North Metropolitan TAFE. Some require prior registration while you can just show up on the day to others. For more information, refer to the leaflet on this link.
